Whale and dolphin watching holidays with Oceanus

The boats we use are all the same; they are Caine and Robertson catamarans 4200 or 4500. Bright, roomy and stable, with acres of deck space they are the perfect platform for what we do. They have 4 guests cabins, all with twin beds, (some also have an additional single), and their own loo and showers. Swanny skippers and there is a cook who doubles as crew when required. The cook will be one of the team of cooks we have used for many years and who have been all over the world with us. This means endless luscious grub.

We only take small groups of 8. You will fly from home and overnight in Los Angeles. The following day you will fly to La Paz where you will be met by Swanny and taken to a small hotel with garden and swimming pool, where you will spend the night (This is besause it can be very tight or impossible with current airline schedules to be in La Paz early enough to leave the same day if flying directly from LA). The next day you will be collected and taken to the boat at mid day. Once the appropriate papers are completed and you have been given a briefing, we shall leave and from then on travel where we will, our only concern to maximise the days whaling. Each night is usually spent at a different anchorage and having left La Paz we shall not see another town until we return.

Naturally we are thrilled to take whatever other delights come our way, although our main passion is to see miracles, mainly whaley miracles, and so if the conditions are right we want to be out and about. This can mean getting up early or staying out late, not that you have to. It’s your holiday and you can stay in bed if you want, you can read your book or lie around chitter chattering, but we shall carry on. That is not to say that we never stop. Beachcombing, scampering on islands, snorkelling with sea lions or exploring reefs are all delicious treats and we try to fit it all in.

Because finding animals is our main passion we do a lot of motoring. It is not possible to achieve the same results under sail. We do sail from time to time but if you are keen on sailing this is probably not the holiday for you.

In order to make life simple for you we include everything in the price; hotels, flights, even the drinks onboard etc.

All our guests are usually booked on the same flights, however if you wish to make different flight arrangements please let us know when booking.

We want the very best, most enthralling encounters and if that means we are up at 04.00 a.m. sneaking about in the dark among whale blows, if that means not going to bed until after midnight and that we are out following whales in the bio luminescence and sitting under a starry sky whilst they feed all around us, then that is what we do. And we do it because we love it. Having the nautical experience we do, means we are able to skipper our own boats, which in turn allows us to go the extra mile.
